Using many yellowjackets help

Postby Rboyart » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:47 am

Hi,

I'm plannig to do a big wifi project but I'm a newbie with this network stuff and I have some questions, hope someone could help me

can I connect 100 yellowsjacket to only one computer?
Do I need a wifi router or the wifi card in my PC is enough?
In my configuration, I need to use the digital outputs to control some LEDs via the PC, so I suppose that my PC is my server and the yellowsjackets are my clients, that's right?
Where can I find a beginner skecht to start programming?
Sorry for my sillys questions but like Carl Sagan said there's not such a silly question when you want to learn ;)

Thanks,

Rodrigo

So you have two WiFi network options - AdHoc (without WiFi router/access point) and Infrastructure (with WiFi router/access point). It certainly sounds doable in Infrastructure point as most, if not all, access points provide you with 254 available client addresses (actually 253 if you subtract out the gateway). For AdHoc I am not sure, never tried more than a few devices connected together via AdHoc.
so I suppose that my PC is my server and the yellowsjackets are my clients, that's right?

Typically a device that accepts a connection is termed the "server" and a device that initiates a connection is termed the "client". So apply the terms "client" and "server" depending on who accepts and initiates the connections in your scenario.

Take a look at the Wiki for helpful information including sample code (PC sample code for TCP and UDP sketches). Take a look at the WiShield examples for sample sketches.

Sounds like a big project to take on for your first foray into networking!
