Aref pin on YJ.......

Postby DrStu » Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:07 am

The Aref pin on the YJ, is it accessible, usable? :?: I see from the schematic that it is pulled to ground......

I'm trying to get microphone input, therefore
Mic -------> Preamp -----------> LP filter ---------> YJ

Since the preamp will be running on the same regulated supply voltage as the YJ (5V), the max output the opmp (in the preamp section) can give would be approximately 3.5V at best. I'm worried that this would GREATLY reduce the dynamic range of my ADC , (it's not gona be able to read ath from 3.5V to 5V ! )....a waste of resolution.

Is there a way of defining a Aref that I don't know of? (im unfamiliar with atmel uC....was using PICs previously :D )

Is there any suggestions to get over this?

I asked a similar question the other day and got this response:
Unfortunately no, there is no AREF pin header. This design mimics the
Arduino mini and pro mini, which also doesn't have AREF exposed. I did some
digging last night, and found this on the Arduino site in regards to the
mini:

By default the analog inputs measure from ground to 5 volts, though is it
possible to change the upper end of their range using the AREF pin and some
low-level code.

So the board can be modified to have an exposed AREF, but it'll be some
work. Sorry about that, but this is definitely something I'm thinking of
adding to the next iteration.

So maybe you should be looking at the Black Widow instead of the Yellow Jacket, or are you constrained for space?
